Theistic Evolution: Scientific, Philosophical and Theological Concerns

Philosophia Christi, Vol. 24, No. 1, 2022. Shared by permission of the journal.

In this paper, I explore scientific, philosophical, and theological difficulties that arise from adopting theistic evolution, understood as claiming that the origin and development of life can be entirely accounted for in terms of the operation of natural causes, without any need to posit direct divine intervention.

God does not intervene into nature … Our current science may or may not be able to explain any given feature of living organisms, yet there must exist some explanatory cause in nature. The most complex of organisms have a natural explanation even if it is one that we do not now, or perhaps never will know.
